Welcome to the web home of the northernmost parish in the Catholic Diocese of Austin, Assumption Catholic Church in West, TX. We have been serving West and the surrounding communities for 125 years. We are pleased to have you visit our website, and we hope you will visit us this Sunday.
SUNDAY MASS TIMES CHANGE — As mentioned, when it was announced that Fr. Darrell was leaving, the Diocese of Austin is currently facing a crunch when it comes to priests to assign as parochial vicars, so right now there is not another priest to send to assist here in West. Because of that, the bishop has approved the schedule consolidation discussed with the Pastoral Council, thus, starting the weekend of the 5th/6th of May, the Sunday schedule will change to 8:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m. (Spanish). Weekday Mass times and the Vigil are still under discussion with the Pastoral Council and no immediate decision has been made. Please remember to be diligent in praying for vocations from our parish and to encourage the young men from within our own families to be open to the idea of the priesthood.
From Father David:
This year, our parish’s festival will fall on Sunday, the 12th of August. The festival is obviously about building community within the parish, so that parishioners can come together and enjoy each other’s company, but it is important to remember that it is also an opportunity to support the financial needs of the parish. The festival is the largest single fundraising event for the parish so please come out to help support the parish’s work and ministry.
One way of starting that support now is through the raffle. Feast Day Festival Raffle tickets are now available to be picked up at the exits of the church, and we would like to see each family to sell at least two booklets. I’d like to thank those who have already donated prizes. And if anyone else is moved to offer their help, we are looking for donations for boxes of chicken to offset expenses for the meal, homemade canned goods for the Country store, live and silent auction items, as well as desserts the day of the festival.
It’s not just material help that can be offered, however. There are many different ways to serve during the festival. There will be opportunities to volunteer for a number of responsibilities: set up at the KC Hall, chicken skinning, chicken breading, dishwashers in the kitchen, clean up, and break down. Sign-up sheets will be available in the narthex during the month of July.
There will be plenty of activities available for the children of our parish, including a water slide, bingo, and a snow cone machine.
Please be on the look-out for further announcements in the bulletin. If you have questions, do not hesitate to contact any member of the Pastoral Council, and if you aren’t entirely sure who they are right now, their names are on the church’s website. Thank you.
In Corde Jesu,
Fr. David
